How next week’s rate is known early
Carriers set each Monday’s ground surcharge from an EIA diesel price published about a week earlier. Once that price is out, each carrier’s current table gives the result, so it can be calculated right away. Carriers can change tables without notice, so each value is checked against the carrier’s posted rate when it appears.
